This is an awesome ride - one of the best in the province. There is no end of corners (most of the way). The ride is less spectacular the last 10 km or so, but not bad. The road is well engineered, and for the most part the pavement is in good to great condition (2014). There are a number of small, rural communities and vacation properties along the way, but not a lot of services. The scenery is great with frequent lake and mountain views. The road cuts through some treed areas as well. This is definitely one ride you should experience.

Total distance along the highway is about 78 km. The free ferry across Kootenay Lake takes about half an hour and is an enjoyable experience in itself (at least if the weather is good).
